The Hunger Games Movie, Who Should Be and Who Is On the Cast List

On March 18, 2009 Lionsgate announced its rights to distribute and produce The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is a futuristic young adult novel written by Suzanne Collins.The major issue with casting in this movie is the need for very young actors who can bring needed depth and maturity to these roles. My picks for my favorite characters are up and coming actors and actresses that I think would be great! I love when movies indroduce less known faces! This is just for fun. Enjoy!

Name - Christian Serratos

Birthday - September 21, 1990

Movies - Twilight and New Moon, Angela

Her dark hair and olive skin fit the description perfectly. With gray contacts she would look just how I imagined Katniss to look.

She is unknown on the big screen but has acting skills. Her claim to fame....Vampire Diaries.

Ok.....I have had three AWESOME suggestions for Katniss so I am going to add them up here. Y'all are just great! Thanks for everyone's ideas!!!

The first addition is going to be Lucy Hale. Camryn was the genius to suggest her. I love her dark hair and olive skin. Perfect!

Now the second add in for Kat is Lily Collins. She is also how I pictured Katniss. Maybe with a dark glaze for her hair though? Laura just suggested her, although I'm not sure if she was the first one.

Jeni H. gets the cred. for the last choice on our brand new awesome Katniss Poll. Her pick was Hailee Steinfeld. She is also a good choice. I think her hair would need to be darkened as well, but her over all look is good.

It's really hard to find a sturdier actor. Do they all eat lettuce to stay so thin? There are several great choices for Peeta, but I really hope they find a good actor who can be sensitive but strong at the same time. I also imagine Peeta to be super cute!

For our next Peeta. I picked someone that has been suggested a few times. He was in Eragon, which kinda bombed...... hard. I think this guy deserves another chance and a better script! It's..........................Edward Speeler's. I think he is a little too "pretty boy" for my first pick, but I wouldn't be mad if he got the part.

So Gale is going to have to be good looking and buff. I kinda want an older actor for him because of this and his circumstances.

OK, I promise I haven't seen Hannah Montana! This guy is an awesome Gale though. He has the dark hair and light eyes. His look is edgy too. I can see him playing a hardened survivor.

OK, so all the Gale fans are wanting a second poll now. There is no pleasing you people! :D I have heard some great suggestions, so here are three more Gale-type guys to vote on!

My favorite part 2 Gale is going to have to be Cory Monteith from Glee. Now this is based on looks because personality wise I don't know if he could pull it off. Gale is very political. He is aggressive and wants to take down the government. I just can't see that kind of anger coming from him.

My second pick for this poll would be Ben Barns. I think he has more acting experience, but then again we run into the same problem I have with Twilight, he has a big movie franchise. I would rather see someone else get a break.

Pick #3 is Gaspard Ulliel. Now this last pick isn't really my fav., but so many readers have suggested him soooooooo ..............because I love y'all that much! ;) Gaspard Ulliel looks kinda evil to me. I don't know why! He is also a lot paler and thinner than the Gale I pictured in my mind. I would not be upset if he got the part though. He makes the top 6 I guess.

Dakota Fanning has a quiet demeanor that would be great for Madge. Her name and acting would also bring clout to the movie.

I like Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn.  They look like they could be Madge's parents already!  Can't you see him paying a mayor?  I always pictured them both to be more mature.

Now this just says light hair and your hair gets darker as you age kiddos, that's why I think Mrs. Everdeen needs a little bit darker hair, not brown, but not light blond either.  It would look unnatural.

Keri Russel

I think Keri Russel would rock as Mrs. Everdeen. She looks a lot like Abigail. I like her acting and I'd love to see her in a role like this.

Patrick Dempsey - He wouldn't even need contacts! He has the dark hair and grayish eye just like the seam. I also love his acting. It may be hard to get a big actor for this part though because it's really more of a cameo.

Michael Vartan - There are some people among us who would say Brad Pitt should play Peeta's dad.  Really?  He isn't shy enough.  He doesn't look humble enough.  This guy has to pull off this sad forgotten love and has to be super shy.  I like this guy much better.

Brooke Elliott

I don't know a whole lot about this actress.  It was hard to find a Mrs. Mellark.  I imagined her to be ....ummmm... plus sized and mean lookin'.  This actress is both.  I'm sure she's a lovely person, but she has the kind of look that scares me.  I wouldn't want to burn any of her bread!  She may need to lighten her hair.

This actress is very new. She has appeared on Hannah Montana, the T.V. series, and Zoey 101. I just thought she looked like a good Fox Face. Out of all the other tributes, beside Rue, I liked Fox Face.  She's so cunning and smart.

Ok, so I know he usually plays the good guy, but I think Patrick Stewart can be evil too. He would bring a big name to the movie and do an awesome job.

Here's another acting legend. Clint Eastwood. He's quite scary looking. His lips aren't very big, but that's what botox is for right? The only thing about getting someone too old is that the movie hasn't even started filming yet. We don't want another Dumbledore situation.

Ok, I get what y'all are saying about JB not looking like "the seam" so here's the PERFECT Haymitch!!! One of my readers said they pictured him with an accent, maybe this was who they meant but didn't know it. You get bonus cool points if you know who this is. Charles Mesure is his name. Where have you seen him before? V. That invasion show. He's sarcastic, kinda funny, mean, he looks like "the seam", and I could totally see him as a survivor of the Hunger Games!!! Y'all know I'm right!!!!!

OK, I give up.  Let's add Rob DJ and throw in a poll.  Then we'll see what's up.  I DO like him for the part...... a ton.  Here's the prob bob.....this guy is huge now.  I just don't know if he'll go for HG and I'm not sure what the budget for the film is.  My guess is that it would not be a totally huge amount of cash for the first one because they don't know how well it will do.  That is just a total guess.  If they did get him as Haymitch though, I'm also guessing the other characters are going to be unknowns.  Unfortunately the world runs on $$$$$$$$$$ not wishes.  :D

I love this guy for Cinna. He is a little feminine, he dresses well, and I think he is the right age for Cinna. He'll just need green contacts.

James McAvoy - I liked him in Becoming Jane and Narnia. I think he would do a great job with Cinna, and it would be something different than what he has done. He's been in some great movies, but this role would really put him out there.

Ever since I saw her as a judge for American Idol I have thought she'd be perfect for Effie. She has a really distinct voice and a funny personality. She hasn't really had that huge break out role yet. This could be it!

So....... everyone's been asking "What about Flickerman?"  Yes... I've finally got to it.  I know some people my hate on me for this, but I'm gonna go with Jim Carrey.  I mean, when is the last time he got to do a really crazy, costumed character?  He was great as the Riddler.  He can also be serious when he needs to be, although even when he is being serious, it's hard to take him seriously.  Kind of like Flickerman.  There is one disclaimer to this suggestion.  They would not be able to use both him and Jack Black.  Can you imagine the hysterical mayhem that would take place on set?  They would never get it filmed! 

Venia - Alyson Hannigan - We know she has auburn hair from the third book. I can see her get into this role. She usually plays a quirky kind of sidekick type person.

Octavia - Melissa McCarthy

I've heard other people have picked her as well. She is who I thought of while I read the book.

Flavius- Chris Colfer

We know that this guy can be fashion forward and flamboyant. What a cool role for him to play.

Alex Pettyfer

This one is new. I know all the Peeta/Pettyfer fans are mad right now, but I think his attitude and look are better suited for Cato. He just looks more like a fighter...not a lover. Hehehe.

Cindy Busby

So, someone corrected me, it was Glimmer who had the blond hair.  This actress looks about how I was picturing her in my head.

Kofi Sirboe

He looks like a good Thresh.  The thing about Thresh is really... he could be anyone.  He doesn't even talk much.   I like this guy though.  He fits the part.

Phobe Tonkin

This girl is a little fierce looking.  She would be a good Clove.  Really, I'm not that picky about this character either.

Bonnie Wright

I know this is Ginny from Harry Potter, but I can picture her as the Avox girl.  In my head I always thought of her as really sweet and quiet.  That's how Bonnie comes across to me.   

Kathryn Hunter - OK class, who knows who this is? It's Mrs. Figg! Wouldn't she make a good Greasy Sae? I think she could totally do it! Oh, ans BTW I totally didn't mean to cast two HP people in a row.  It just happened OK?!  The last choice I had was too strong and mean looking. She maybe a possible candidate for Coin. We shall see!!!!

So, I know a lot of you are sad that the Hunger Game series is over. They were some crazy cool books. There are other series out there though. If you haven't read The Maze Runner I would definitely recommend it. It's going to be a three book series and the second book just came out in October. The first book is The Maze Runner, the second The Scorch Trials, and the third will come out next fall. It's going to be called The Death Cure. And now for the REAL Cast of The Hunger Games.

Katniss Everdeen has been cast. Lionsgate announced that Jennifer Lawrence will be playing Katniss in Artemis, the screen adaptation of The Hunger Games. I'm looking forward to what the makeup artists will do. I think her hair will have to be darkened of course, and I wouldn't be surprised if the pour on a bottle of self tanning lotion for good measure. Now, I know some of you are very upset but you have to remember that Suzanne Collin herself backs Jenn up. This is from an interview in EW.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: When did you know Jennifer Lawrence was your Katniss?
GARY ROSS: First I saw Winter’s Bone, and I just thought she was phenomenally talented and just kind of riveting and amazing and had so much power. And then we had a meeting and I found her to be just a completely compelling, intelligent person. But then she came in and read for me and it just knocked me out. I don’t want to go into too many details, but we did a scene from the movie and it was so amazingly powerful that it was sort of stunning. You glimpsed every aspect of the role and the potential of the whole movie.

There’s already quite a bit of hand-wringing that, no matter how good an actress Lawrence is, at 20 she’s simply too old for the role.
First of all I talked to Suzanne extensively about this. Suzanne saw every single audition. And not only did Suzanne not have an issue with Jen’s age, she felt you need someone of a certain maturity and power to be Katniss. This is a girl who needs to incite a revolution. We can’t have an insubstantial person play her, and we can’t have someone who’s too young to play this. Suzanne was incredibly adamant about this. Far from being too old, she was very concerned that we would cast someone who was too young. In Suzanne’s mind, and in mine, Katniss is not a young girl. It’s important for her to be a young woman. She’s a maternal figure in her family. She’s had to take care of Prim and in many ways her mother since her father’s death. She’s had to grow up pretty quick.

So cheer up everyone!!!! It's still going to be awesome!

Well, if you heard rumors about Josh Hutcherson, they're true. He is going to be playing Peeta in The Hunger Games movie. A lot of people are disappointed in this choice, and I have to say I was a little shocked. When I think of Josh I think of Bridge to Terebithia or Zathura. He seems like a little kid still, but he is actually 18 now. My main concern, besides the fact that he doesn't "look" like Peeta, is that I can't see him having good chemistry with Jennifer. They just don't fit to me. I hope they prove me wrong. I don't want to be a hater though. There are some reasons why I like the choice. He has a really sweet, funny personality. Isn't that more important? We love the character of Peeta because of who he is not how he looks right? Plus he's still a cute kid right? He isn't as scrawny looking as some other actors, very Peeta-like.  Now that the pictures of Josh with blond hair and blue eyes have surfaced, what do you think?  Is he "Peeta"rific?  I think it rocks actually!!!!

They just didn't listen to us did they?! Well, it's also official that Liam Hemsworth will be playing  Gale Hawthorne. There are actually some good reasons why this is a good choice as well. (Look at me being all positive!)  Here's the thing y'all, Gale has to look like Katniss's cousin. This guy looks like Jennifer's cousin, right? He also looks older than Jenn and Josh so that fits as well. We can't get upset about this because it really is going to be a good movie. Remember when Rob Pattinson was cast as Edward? People freaked. It was mass hysteria!!!  Ok maybe not, but one girl said he looked like a gargoyle and could never be Edward. Now I can't imagine anyone else. My one problem with this guy is that he dated Miley Cyress. That's just wrong y'all. UPDATE: After watching more of Last Song I can totally see Liam as Gale!  The movie itself was so - so, but I really liked Liam's acting.  Looking at his picture is great and all, but when you watch him speak and act his charm comes across even more.  The casting was definitely based more on personality than looks. We will appreciate this more later. I think these actors will pull off the emotional complications in this book perfectly. After a trip to hair and make up they'll be perfect!!!

Katniss's little sister Prim will be played by new comer Willow Sheilds.  She is a New Mexico native and brand new to the industry.   Gary Ross said this about her,

 “It’s so exciting to find an amazing young actress like the one we just met. “Prim is an emotionally demanding role and in many ways she is the cornerstone of the story. Willow Shields will make an amazing Prim and we’re very lucky to have her

This is another brilliant choice for me! We said we wanted unknowns and she definitely fits the bill!  I think she looks just how I pictured Prim to be. (Well after a quick strip of wax!)  Who's getting excited?!?!?

The District Tributes

 Jack Quaid & Leven Rambin will be the District 1 tributes, Marvel and Glimmer. Jack Quiad is the son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan. Leven is awesome because she is from TEXAS! The tributes from this district are known as "Careers" because they are said to train for the games.  I think they both look pretty close to what I imagined, especially Glimmer.

Wow!  I got so behind y'all!  Cato was cast!  I think he looks very fab.  Exactly how I pictured him!!!   Alexander Ludvig was also in Race to Witch Mountain, The Seeker, and a few other movies.  He was born May 7, 1992 in British Columbia.  Clove is going to be played by Isabelle Fuhrman.  I have to say that she is smaller and younger looking than how I pictured Clove to be.  She was born February 25, 19971 in Washington D.C.  Her biggest movie to date is Orphan.  That movie was supposedly pretty freaky so maybe she makes for a good bad guy...uh girl?  

Both of these tributes are new comers so I can't find out many facts. Feel free to let me know if you know anything. Kalia has done stunt work and has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. You go girl!  Tributes from district three are known for their intelligence. 

More unknowns.  Everyone should be excited about that.  Ethan has done some television and Tara has been in stunt work.  District 4 has also has "Career" tributes and is the district that Finnick comes from.

Fox Face is the best known tribute from this district.  Their industry is unknown.  Foxface is very clever with red hair and a slim face and frame.  I think we are all hoping that Jacqueline's hair gets redder before the filming begins.  She's not quite what I excepted, but really this character is talked about more than she is seen. 

In book two the tributes are Morphlings, not so in book one.  Not much is said about these tributes and not much is known about the actors.  Y'all said you wanted unknowns.

All of these tributes are newcomers.  This isn't surprising for a lot of them.  Not much is said about these two in the books.  We know that Joanna was from district 7.  Not much is said in book one though.

Another set of tributes with out much clout in the book.  The great thing about this movie is that it does bring so many newcomers.  We know that district eight is textiles and that they make peace keeper uniforms.

Another pair of lucky unknowns who get to duke it out in the arena. Imanol Yepez-Frias and Annie Thurman. This district has lots of factories. Does anyone know if the book mentions what they produce?

Jeremy Marinas has been cast as the unnamed quiet boy with a limp from District 10.  Dakota Hood has been cast as the District’s unnamed female tribute.

Marinas has performed stunt work for the movies The Green Hornet and the Sherlock Holmes sequel.  Hood has only been in one movie called Scripture Cake: A Southern Cuisine Movie.  Whatever that is.

Rue & Thresh!

Yay!  These actors are perfect!  i always knew they were African American.   I't's called reading comprehension.   Dayo Okeniyi looks like an excellent Thresh!   Amanda looks the part, but I think we all want to know if she can sing.  So far I haven't hear either way.

There are some people who are really disappointed by this one, but I think I like Woody for Haymitch.  Woody Harrelson has been around for a while.  I grew up watching him on re-runs of Cheers, so the whole drinking thing is something I can definitely see!   I've always thought he was a good actor and he has a ton of experience.  What do y'all think?

We all love to hate Effie.  Elizabeth banks, born Elizabeth Maersal Mitchell, has landed the role of Effie Trinket.  I really wanted Kristin C., but I think Elizabeth will be good.  She looks AWESOME at 37 years old.  Seriously.   If you're wondering where you've seen her, she is the secretary in Spider-man in 2002.  Go check it out!

Ok....so I think the most surprising casting decision has been Cinna.  He isn't quite the brown haired green eyed guy we were all imagining, but I actually kinda like the choice.  Gary Ross said, "When I saw Lenny's work in Precious, I was just knocked out."  I didn't I will never see precious so I can't say much about that, but if Suzanne agrees I'm cool with that.  Not much we can do about anyway right?  As long as he doesn't bust out with "Fly Away" and turn it into a musical I'm good.  I will say that he is A LOT older than the Cinna we all pictured, but that's it.  No hating.  Don't worry, be happy. 

OK, raise your hand if you pictured Mr. Crane a tad bit older?!?!?! I think that you'll agree with me when I say this is an excellent surprise! Seneca Crane is the Head Gamemaker in book one.   Wes Bently is a movie veteran compared to all our tributes.  One of his larger roles was in the movie Ghost Rider.   You've gotta wonder if all of the game makers will be this attractive?  This movie gets better by the day!

The latest casting has been President Snow.  Donald Sutherland is going to be the old meanie.  I like his acting.  He was awesome as Mr. Bennet in Pride and Prejudice, but I don't know if I can picture him as a bad dude?  He's got the evil brows though....hmmmmmmm.  Another thing that makes me pause is his size.  Did anyone else picture the Prez. as a short guy?  You know....Napoleon Complex type issues?  When it comes down to acting though I think he'll bring it.  What do y'all think about Snow?
