Garnier Semi-Permanent Hair Color: Experimenting With Fire

OK, so maybe I'm not working with fire here, but I am dying my hair. In my world that's livin' on the edge people. The hubby wasn't thrilled, but when my good friend got me an Ulta card for my birthday with instructions that said "get something for your hair", I know what she meant. We had discussed it in plenty detail and had decided I needed to be a red head, well maybe an auburn...um...head.

When it comes to experimenting with my hair color I'm a total wimp. I like my natural color, sort of. It is just your very basic brown. However, with the big 3-0 looming on the event of my next birthday (still a little yes than year away!! I feel the need to point that out for some reason.) I decided to try something new. So, like the chicken that I am I went with color that washes out. Yes! Just call me a hair colorin' rebel! The dye that I purchased with said gift card is Garnier HerbaShine. It's a new color creme made with bamboo extract. The product lasts through 28 shampoos, takes 10 minutes to process, and covers 70% of your gray hair, not that I have any.........yet. At first I held a box of Cherry Red in my hands, but the wuss in me traded it last minute for a nice Copper Mahogany Brown. It's the word "cherry" that threw me off. I put it in the same category as descriptive words such as "fire engine" or "candy apple" red. A little too daring for me.

So what now? Now I intend on sharing my wealth of knowledge and experience with the cyber-world. I'll be updating this little article from time to time over the next 28 shampoos to let you know how this baby works. For starters, I suppose I should take the towel off my head and go dry my hair to unveil the red head in me. Let the experimentation begin!

The Results are in!

Alrighty then. I'm feeling a little more feisty! I have dried and styled my hair. Let me first say that the smell of the color was actually very nice. It wasn't too strong and smelled pretty much like shampoo. It wasn't hard to mix. I do recommend that you read and follow the directions carefully. Using an old nasty towel and T-shirt is a definite must!

My hair isn't bright red, which is a plus for me personally. I have no objections to red heads in general. There may be specific ones....oh never mind. I'm liking the subtle hints of auburn. It's very Bella Swan. Hehehe! We'll see how the color last throughout the experiment. So far so good y'all!

So here's the latest report y'all. Let me begin by saying back in the day (high school) I tried some semi-permanent hair color that was fine, but at night it rubbed off on my pillow and after washing my hair the water never quite ran clear. This color is great. My pillowcase has remain it's original color as have my towels. There is a great tip that I didn't do, but you should if you are contemplating this. If you rub a thin layer of Vaseline around you hairline and on the tips of your ears it will help the color stay put when you apply it and protect your skin. I didn't have any drips or stains, but on a few places of exposed skin it has felt a little itchy and a tiny bit uncomfortable. Color's still going strong!

The hair color is still going strong.  I think I will wait to post another picture at 2 weeks.  I still really like the red, but I am missing the brown.  I wonder if I could get the same hair color but use foil to do either highlights or color paneling?  Semi-permanent highlights?  I really like that idea because I don't want to make the commitment, spend the time, or  spend the $$$$$ with permanent hair color.  It's an idea!  Has anyone tried that?

The red is still there, but now it is a more auburn color.  If you want your hair color to last you should try something more permanent.  If you just want to change your hair and experiment with different colors, you should try this out.  The picture is coming.  I've decided to wait until 4 weeks for more change, and to end my experiment.
